Welcome to PASS – Level 3
What You Need to Know Before Enrolling
The essentials: Prior to the start of the program, you will be required to work with your supervisor and identify a business process needing improvement in your work area. A pre-program packet will be provided to you and your supervisor to help guide you through the selection of a process that will be the focus for your process improvement project throughout the duration of the program. During PASS 3 you will work by yourself on the improvement process, but you will have guidance from a facilitator along the way.
Weekly supervisory support is essential to the success of the project! |

| How to Enroll |
- Attendance is required for all 8-weeks of this program. Please verify that your schedule allows you to attend every date listed.
- A pre-course assessment held approximately three weeks prior to the start date of the program is also required for enrollment.
- When your application has been accepted, you will receive a confirmation notice from the DAS Office of Training & Development.
- You must demonstrate that you have received management approval to attend this class.
- After receiving management approval to attend, please complete the application at Training & Development Application and Fax application to (614) 232-1609.
- Both the Personal and Employee Job Information areas must be completed before your application is considered for enrollment.

What is PASS Level 3?
Building on all of the skills learned in PASS Levels 1 and 2, PASS 3 focuses on a more intensive individual project, development and leadership skills. During this class you will gain additional and specific knowledge and experience in the area of process improvement. PASS 3 is an eight consecutive week commitment with individual classes varying between one-day and two-day formats. PASS 3 focuses on help you understand your strengths and opportunities for development in:
- Applying management theory in an individual work environment
- Improving on higher level job competencies
PASS 3 learning activities are classroom based, but require some outside assignments between course dates (see “The Essentials” section listed above.) A PASS 3 Pre-program assessment is conducted to measure peer-group perception in:
- Handling Conflict & Problem Solving, Decision making
- Collaboration & Commitment to High Standards
- Taking Initiative and Responsibility
- Communication skills

PASS Program – Level 3 Curriculum

Orientation, Mapping Work Processes and Establishing Your Project Timeline :
In this course, you will learn general techniques and how to’s in order to complete step-by-step documentation to improve work processes and leading a team through the process. Several methods of data gathering and analysis will be taught. You will also be required to establish your working timeline and initiating your project plans.

Creativity & Problem Solving for Leadership. Much of our problem solving skills effect our daily job success and failure. By creating new solutions and learning how to lead others through new processes you will improve your skills for the future. Looking through the lens of a leader, you learn to tap into your creativity, find new ways to accomplish goals and solve daily problems and challenges, and gain experience in leading others using these methods. The afternoon is for project development activities.

Project Day; A full day of developing the process map and conducting the analysis to begin process improvement.

Technical Writing: In this ½ day course, you will learn the basic aspects of technical writing using such techniques as “process descriptions; mechanism descriptors; classification and interpretation and report type selection” that matches reader’s needs. A project end report is required by week seven. The afternoon is for project development activities.

Effective Presentations: In this course you will review MS PowerPoint, and learn some advanced techniques. You will also practice the basic methods of writing a presentation and presenting on a professional level.

Directing Your Development : This class will help you to analyze the sources of job satisfaction, identifying steps to improve performance; find effective ways to take initiative; identify strengths and improvement opportunities to maintain work relationships; and create a plan for personal performance and long-term goals.

Capstone Presentation Day: Participants will present their process improvement project to a panel.
