What is SAO College?

Sponsored by the State Architect's Office, SAO College began in 2002 to educate interested parties on the proper design management and construction management of state projects. SAO College is attended annually by more than 200 participants, including state agency and institution representatives, architects, engineers, contractors and construction managers throughout the state of Ohio. Topics are presented by an SAO staff expert in conjunction with a specialist from the architectural, construction or legal industry.

Each year SAO offers continuing education credits for those seeking credits from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) or the Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board (OCILB).

In previous years, many participants have provided comments about the content and presentation of the SAO College seminar topics, which included information about the EDGE program, OAKS Capital Improvements, energy conservation strategies in state-owned facilities, changes to the state's "Standard Requirements" documents and online plan reviews through the Ohio Dept. of Commerce. Also presented were topics on getting work with the state, responsibilities during the construction phase, case studies of successful projects, tips for relocation and moving and how to get paid using the state's various forms and processes.
