STATE SURPLUS PROPERTY PROGRAM

Program Synopsis

The State Surplus Property Program receives excess property from state agencies and sells it to eligible recipients. Property not disposed of in this manner is sold to the general public. Surplus vehicles are stored at the surplus car lot at 4200 Surface Road in Columbus. Other surplus property is accumulated at the surplus warehouse at 4200 Surface Road in Columbus. Some property is disposed of on-site.

Eligibility

The following organizations are eligible in priority order: (1) state agencies; (2) state-supported or state-assisted institutions of higher education; (3) tax-supported agencies, municipal corporations or other political subdivisions of the state, private fire companies, or private, nonprofit emergency medical service organizations and (4) nonpublic elementary and secondary schools chartered by the State Board of Education.

Program Benefits

The program can provide a source of supply at prices which are considerably below what is available from other sources. Vehicles are sold at 60% of "blue book" retail value. Other property is generally priced well below its actual value.

How To Get Started

Register at the State Surplus office at 4200 Surface Road (614-466-6570). Since all organizations eligible for the state surplus program are also eligible for the federal surplus program, you should concurrently apply for the federal program which requires completion of an application form. After registration, simply visit the surplus warehouse and/or car lot at your convenience and purchase what you like. The hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on normal workdays. No appointment is necessary. Call the surplus car lot (614-466-2670) or the surplus warehouse (614-466-7636) for further information or assistance. No sales are conducted in the two weeks prior to a public auction.

Program Highlights

All purchases must be made by organization checks or an IntraState Transfer Voucher (ISTV). No other type of payment, including cash, is acceptable. Make checks payable to "Treasurer, State of Ohio."  We will bill you with payment due within 30 to 60 days. (Note: Titles to vehicles will not be transferred until full payment is received).

Due to the rapid turnover, no itemized inventory lists are published.

NOTE:  State Surplus property is available to the general public only at public auctions.
