SAO Spring Semester to be part of expo
-- GSD State Architect’s Office, December 2004

Design and construction industry professionals attending the Ohio Design and Construction Expo will have an opportunity to learn more about doing business with the State Architect's Office (SAO).

The SAO College Spring Semester 2005 will be part of the series of seminars and programs held in conjunction with the expo, which will be held Feb. 2 and 3 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The expo, which is sponsored by the Builders Exchange of Central Ohio, is the largest trade show in Ohio.

SAO will offer two new seminar topics. One seminar will address issues regarding liens and prevailing wages. The other seminar will feature case studies teaching participants how to avoid project delays and litigation.

In addition, popular topics from the past will be repeated with updated information. For example, attendees will learn how to prepare the ADM-0255 form, invoice for professional services and construction contracts, issue change orders and close out projects. Other popular topics returning are Sustainable Design and the LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) program, CSI MasterFormat 2004 and the new EDGE (Encouraging Diversity, Growth and Equity) program.

The topics will be presented by an SAO staff expert in conjunction with a specialist from the architectural, construction or legal community, or from a state agency, state college or state university.

The registration fee is $35 per course. Each day’s sessions will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Seminar graduates may be awarded up to 5.0 learning units from the American Institute of Architects, the Ohio Construction Industry Examination Board or the Society for Marketing Professional Services.

Eligible state employees attending the seminar may use funding from the Workforce Development program or the Exempt Professional Development Program.
