OCPM
Eligibility & Application

 |
Eligible
candidates for the Ohio Certified Public Manager (OCPM)
program must manage people or major projects. State employees
must be exempt from bargaining units.

Participation
is voluntary, dependent on approval by the candidate's government
agency. Government agencies include municipal, county, township,
federal, special district, state and regional governments.
|
 |
Candidates
for the OCPM program must commit to completing the entire
program, usually in a two-year period.
|
 |
Candidates
for the OCPM program must complete the required application
and receive endorsement of her/his immediate supervisor,
division/office chief and agency director or designee.
|
 |
The
rigor of the CPM program requires a high degree of conceptual
ability, reading comprehension and written and verbal
communication skills.

Applications
must contain all requested signatures, information and attachments.

Incomplete
applications will not be considered |

The
candidate must provide the following documents as a separate
attachment package to the application:
1. |
A resume or curriculum vitae that includes positions you have held with government agencies, your managerial positions and educational background. |
2. |
Two (2) letters of recommendation:
One letter must be from the immediate supervisor and the other must be from the agency director or authorized designee. The letters must signify approval for release time, endorsement and indicate the employee to be:
- A high performer who can handle the additional challenges and demands of the program (two work-related projects and comprehensive written exam),
- An individual who demonstrates sufficient skills to be successful with producing the three program deliverables – (oral and written communications skills; critical thinking abilities; strategic thinking abilities.

3. |
An acceptable two-page written report/essay.
The document must be typed, double spaced with one inch margins and in 12-point font. The report will be evaluated to determine suitability for this program and must meet minimum standards for grammar and writing, critical and strategic thinking abilities, and effective written communication skills.
The topic for the report will change periodically, but this year’s topic will be one of the following:
- Implications of Governor Strickland’s Turnaround Ohio plan for (agency name) or
- Analysis of one or more of the seven (7) components included in the Turnaround Ohio plan

Applications
are reviewed as they are received for admission to the next
available program in the applicant's geographic location.
Applicants are notified of acceptance within 30 days of the
beginning of the program. |
