Length of Benefits

The number of weeks that you are eligible to receive benefits depends on the number of qualifying weeks earned in your base period. You may receive 20 weeks of benefits for the first 20 weeks worked in your base period. You also may receive one week of benefits for each additional week worked in your base period, up to 26 weeks per benefit year.

Appeals

If you are denied unemployment compensation, you will have the opportunity to appeal the decision. Appeals must be filed with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS) within 21 days of the mailing date of the decision. ODJFS will schedule the appropriate hearing upon receipt of any appeal. The levels of appeal are:

  • Reconsideration redetermination
  • Hearing Officer
  • Review Commission
  • Ohio Court of Common Pleas

You may have representation at any hearing. If you have any questions about unemployment compensation, contact your nearest ODJFS office.
