Occupational Injury Leave

Occupational Injury Leave (OIL) provides you with 100 percent of your regular rate of pay in lieu of workers' compensation benefits. OIL is available to the employees of certain agencies who sustain particular injuries. OIL is not available to all state employees. See below for the list of agencies that offer OIL benefits. Refer to your union contract, Ohio Revised Code or Ohio Administrative Code for additional information.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Occupational Injury Leave (OIL) both of the following conditions must be true:

  1. While in the line of duty, you are physically disabled as a result of a bodily injury directly inflicted by an inmate, client, patient, youth or student.

  2. You are an employee of one of the following agencies:

    Department of Commerce (Division of Liquor Control employees under FOP2 contract)

    Schools for the Deaf and Blind

    Department of Mental Health

    Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities

    Department of Natural Resources (employees under FOP2 contract)

    Ohio Veterans Home

    Department of Public Safety (employees under FOP2 or OSTA contracts)

    Department of Rehabilitation and Correction

    Department of Taxation (employees under FOP2 contract)

    Department of Youth Services
